Ursula lives an idyllic bohemian lifestyle on Sydney's eastern beaches.  She is involved in an hedonistic affair with the man upstairs and she and her boyfriend are drifting apart. Lives tangled together with deceit and secrecy. When her older brother Simon tells of the death of a childhood friend in prison,  Ursula's memories reveal a story of loss and betrayal culminating in the death of her seven-year-old sister Evie. As the truth of Evie's death is gradually revealed, Ursula is forced not only to accept her emotional and moral failures but the frailties of her own family.
