Porchlight Films is an independent production company based in Sydney. It was formed by three producers; Vincent Sheehan, Liz Watts and Anita Sheehan, with a shared vision and commitment to independently produce distinctive Australian film and television. Over the past nine years, Porchlight Films has produced award winning feature films, television dramas, documentaries and short films, including the independent box office hit of 2001, Mullet, and in 2002, the critically acclaimed Walking On Water, winner of 5 AFI Awards. Porchlight's most recent production, The Home Song Stories, premiered at this year's 2007 Berlin Film Festival to excellent critical acclaim. Due to release in 2007, The Home Song Stories, is based on the true story of Australian writer/director Tony Ayres' childhood. The film stars Joan Chen, with Dendy Films distributing through Australasia, and Fortissimo Films representing for the rest of world. Jewboy, directed by Tony Krawitz, was selected for Sundance 2006, having screened in Un Certain Regard at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival, and won the 2005 AFI award for Best Short Film. Little Fish, directed by Rowan Woods and starring Cate Blanchett, Sam Neill and Hugo Weaving screened in Special Presentation at the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival. It was released in September to critical acclaim and was nominated for a record 13 AFI awards. It won 5 AFI awards and 4 IF Awards including the 2005 Box Office achievement award. In 2004 US Variety magazine listed Porchlight Films in its "top ten producers to watch" and in 2006 Australia's Encore magazine lists Porchlight Films as one of the country's top twenty producers. In 2006 Porchlight launched Jetty Distribution as the distribution, sales and rights management arm of the company. Jetty is also the online agent for retail and institutional sales for the Porchlight Films catalogue. Porchlight has a firm reputation as dynamic production company at the forefront of the independent sector. |
